New Year - New Skin! The ultimate guide to building a skincare routine from scratch!

Having a routine that you do consistently is key to achieving healthy, happy skin! In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through the essential steps of a solid routine and highlight some of our favorite products to achieve your skincare goals. From cleansers to sunscreen, we’ve got you covered!

In my professional opinion, I think a good routine will consist of 5 steps.

  1. Cleanser

  2. Exfoliator

  3. Serum

  4. Moisturizer

  5. Sunscreen

Before we continue, I should say that everyones skin is different. What works for your sister or brother might not work for you! Skincare, in general is all about learning your skin and loving it where it is! Give your skin the things it truly needs.

To build a routine we dont go in order! I always start with finding a cleanser that works for your skin. The order in which we are build our routine or the order in which you should purchase these products goes like this!

    1. Cleanser

    2. Moisturizer

    3. Sunscreen

    4. Exfoliator

    5. Serums

Let me explain why we go in this order and then I will get into my favorite products for each category! Again, Everyones skin is different. I love these products for MOST of my clients however, I always recommend booking my Skin Wellness Assessment so we can actually talk about your unique skin and what it truly needs!

We build our routines in this order because the foundation of any good routine starts with the basics and builds up to targeted treatment products! For everyone the basics are a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen! The exfoliator and serums you choose will be more customizable and will vary person to person.

You should first purchase your cleanser. A cleanser is the most important step in my eyes because if you aren’t starting with clean skin…what’s the point of putting anything else on? Do you want to push dirt and oil all over your face just to seal it all in with a moisturizer? Absolutely not! Find a good gentle cleanser that you can use morning and night! This should be gentle enough to use it 2x a day but also effective enough to remove oil, dirt, or even makeup off your skin without stripping it!

cLEANSERS

Next in line to purchase is your moisturizer. again this will depend on your skin type but everyone should have a moisturizer! I like to have one that’s more lightweight f0r summertime or if my skin just doesn’t need added moisture, and one that’s a bit thicker and richer that I can use in the winter or whenever my skin needs something a little extra!

mOISTURIZERS

Lira Clinical : Bio Caviar Creme

Lira Clinical : Mytiq illuminating Beauty Oil

Sunscreen is the next product you’ll need to purchase for your routine and it will conclude the 3 basics of any skincare routine! Don’t worry there are 2 other categories that will be added after this!

Sunscreen!

Don’t get me started with sunscreen and how important they are at protecting our skin for the sun which just degrades our skin like no other. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Sunscreen is the best and cheapest anti aging product you will ever own!

Lira Clinical : Solar Shield Hydrating SPF 30

This can be used as you daytime moisturizer because of how hydrating it is for your skin or you can layer on top of your moisturizer. This special formulation is great for all skin types and perfect for after deeper treatments because it reduces the heat found in our skin! Packed with plant stem cells, peptides, and minerals!

They also have an oil free version for those with extremely oily skin.

Now we can get into the stuff that can be completely customizable to your skin! If you want to focus on brightening, or anti aging, or maybe you’re getting acne and you want to target the breakouts your getting! PERFECT! This is when serums and exfoliators come into play! Serums are the most concentrated part of your routine and this is where you will get the most bang for your buck when dealing with different skin conditions. Exfoliators will also depend your skin because someone with acne will exfoliate differently than someone with dry and sensitized skin. Lets get into the exfoliators next since this will be the next product you’ll need to purchase for your routine.

Exfoliators

Now exfoliating is important but there is a fine line. You can over and under exfoliate your skin. its key to find that balance. Exfoliating removes a layer of dead dry skin that’s sitting on the surface. This will help all of your products get to where they need to go since they aren’t having to go through that layer of dead skin.

Lira Clinical : Pro Anti-aging Pads

Professional homeware treatment for renewing and balancing skin. Formulated with Glycolic, Lactic, Mandelic acids, peptides, vitamin C, and probiotics. Perfect for aging skin, acne prone skin and hyperpigmentation.

Lira Clinical : ICE Clarifying Scrub

Now for the serums! Like I said previously serums are the most concentrated part of your routine so if you need to brighten hyperpigmentation get a brightening serum. If your treating acne, get a serum to combat the breakouts! Serums are really the first thing that will be left on your skin as a treatment product to help improve your skin conditions this is why they are more customizable to whatever it is your skin needs because serums are where you get the most out of your routine.

Serums

Lira Clinical : Pro Lite Serum

Its feels great to know the things you are using everyday are helping you get closer to your skincare goals! You know what to use for your skin type, condition, and you know the order to apply them and the order to purchase them!

I alway recommend to book a skin wellness assessment because the products I recommended above are so general and as I said before what works for your sister or brother might not work for you, this is why its always a good idea to talk to your skincare provider to get a better understanding of your skin and what it actually needs!
